Our Navy Wool Overcoat is made from the finest 100% wool fabric, and features a European cut that gives some shape around the waist for a more modern look. The example shown features our Death of Major Peirson silk jacket lining, but we offer your choice of fine art lining to ensure you have something truly unique to add to your wardrobe.
Fabric: Our jackets are made with the world-renowned Scabal fabric. This jacket is made from 100% wool and features a prunelle weave for the classic smooth feel of an overcoat, and at 520g, adds warmth for the cool winter months without being overly bulky.

Our fine art silk overcoat linings are what makes a jacket truly unique. Here at Rampley & Co we always try to make sure our products tell a story and, by adding a fine art lining, you not only have a overcoat with a striking finish, but one that has real meaning. Our silk jacket linings feature some stunning works from masters such as Canaletto, Giordano, Turner and Rubens. They feature both landscape and portrait works which determines whether the jacket will feature a key central image across the back seam, or a scene that goes across the entire lining.
Our linings are manufactured in Macclesfield, which was once the centre of the English silk weaving industry and the world's biggest producer of finished silk. The area has been printing silk for over 300 years and at one point had over seventy mills operating in the town. The town is close to a water supply that passes through limestone, and when used in washing and dyeing it gives silk a uniquely attractive lustre. Our silk linings are printed at a mill that has been producing printed fabric on the same site for the past fifty years and the process uses water sourced from its own reservoir.
In 1539 Scabal’s mill in Huddersfield stopped grinding wheat and began to work with cloth for the first time. This historic moment laid the foundation to the Scabal of today that has evolved into a producer of the highest quality fabrics by experimenting with techniques, technology and materials in weaving.
This dedication to innovation allows them to create what they term their rare and elite fibres and combined with their natural production processes allow them to lift the colours from the fibres to produce truly elegant cloths. This has led Scabal to become the fabric supplier to some of the most prestigious tailors and textile businesses around the world.
With our overcoats, we set out to create coats with a modern European cut that tapers at the waist, with light padding and roped shoulders to avoid the overly boxy look that you get with many overcoats. This gives our overcoats a stylish silhouette when worn over the top of a tailored jacket, or looks great over a shirt or jumper in a more casual setting at the weekend.
These coats feature angled pockets for ease of access as well as bringing something a little different to the market, traditional three-button closure to really keep the elements out, and a substantial classic notch lapel. The classic navy wool fabric is incredibly versatile and can be worn with most colour palettes or outfits.
In addition to providing our jacketing fabric, we're delighted to work with Scabal of Savile Row, to produce a range of handmade wool and cashmere blend ties.
Through its dedication to innovation and quality, Scabal produces some of the finest cloths for bespoke tailors and textile businesses around the world. The true beauty of Scabal cloth comes from the subtle colours and designs that reveal themselves on closer inspection. In addition to this, the stability of the cloth means that it will always bounce back to its original form, making it perfect for handmade ties.
