The Rampley Vintage Collection is made from archive silks recovered from decades of Italian textile production. The fabrics span 1962 to 1990, each one a time capsule to a different era of weaving. Each tie is handmade by our expert tie makers.

The Tremezzo is handmade in Italy using archive silk grenadine, woven exclusively in Como on looms over a century old, the cloth itself dating from 1962.

ABOUT THE TIE

The near-black navy ground carries an all-over paisley worked entirely in self-colour, the pattern visible only through the contrast between the matte ground and the slightly raised, textured weave of the motif itself. It is a tie of considerable subtlety: it reads as a plain dark tie at distance, reveals a dense and intricate pattern up close, and has a matte, almost cloth-like handle that is entirely different in character from the higher-sheen silks in this collection. The grenadine itself, woven on looms that are themselves over a hundred years old, gives the cloth a depth and irregularity no modern loom can replicate.

Each tie in The Vintage Collection is handmade in Italy, cut to our current silhouette. The construction and finish are identical to everything else we make. The difference is the cloth.

HOW TO STYLE THIS TIE

A tonal paisley of this kind is among the most technically demanding things a silk weaver can produce, the pattern must be legible enough to justify its presence without ever being obvious. This one achieves it. It works with almost any suit and any shirt, which makes it one of the most versatile ties in the collection, and one of the most quietly impressive.

What Makes Our Handmade Ties Special?

1. Handmade in England

All our ties are handmade in England by tie makers with decades of experience producing the finest ties. This ensures that each tie is entirely unique as well as being produced to an exceptionally high standard. We carefully select our interlinings based on the individual fabric being used, which ensures the perfect balance of weight and movement to prevent creasing.

2. Fabrics

We choose to work with only the finest fabrics to make our ties. Our wool and cashmere fabrics are woven in the UK from the world renowned Fox Fabrics and Scabal. We also only work with the finest silk, printed in Macclesfield, England, an area that traces its history of textile production back hundreds of years. 

3. Folds & Finishing

Our ties are produced as a classic 3-fold tie with a self-tipped finish, which provides a nice weight while not using an excessive amount of fabric. Self-tipping is widely considered as a finer way to finish a tie, where the back of the blade is made from the same fabric as the tie itself. Self-tipped ties are generally found on premium quality neckwear due to the higher cost of production.

4. Tie Blade Width & Length

We produce our ties with the versatile dimensions of an 8cm (3.15 inches) wide blade and 150cm (59 inches) long. This ensures our ties will pair nicely with the width of most jacket lapels. We also add a stretch loop while slipping the tie, a continuous piece of thread that allows the fabric to move when worn. This special stitch is another indicator that a tie is handmade.

All our handmade ties are delivered in a stylish box which can either be used to store them or also ensures they make the perfect gift.
