There is nothing quite as luxurious as the feel of a cashmere scarf in the cooler months. This incredibly soft, 100% cashmere scarf is woven and made in the North of England at mills that can trace their history back over 250 years.
Glen check, short for Glenurquhart check, is a woven twill design of small and large checks. Most commonly it is made up of black/grey or with more muted colours, with a houndstooth block where the stripes intersect. The name is taken from the valley of Glenurquhart in Inverness-shire, Scotland, where the checked wool was first used in the 19th century by the New Zealand-born Countess of Seafield to outfit her gamekeepers.

Our cashmere scarves are manufactured in Yorkshire, in mills that can trace their history back over 250 years. This is why you can be sure you're getting the finest quality cashmere scarf available. Cashmere is a natural fibre, and it takes true craftsmanship to deliver an exceptional product. We achieve this by working with only the finest raw materials, and blending textile knowledge passed down over hundreds of years with modern manufacturing techniques. The end result is scarf that feels luxurious when worn while being made to last.
Our cashmere scarves are produced in line with the standards set out by the Sustainable Fibre Alliance and we share their vision that all cashmere is produced in an environmentally friendly way that safeguards the livelihoods of herding communities and protects the important, fragile environment in which they live. The Sustainable Fibre Alliance is the leading sustainability standards organisation for the cashmere industry. Their main objective is to minimise environmental impact, while constantly improving animal welfare standards. They work with the entire supply chain of the cashmere industry, from farmers to retailers, encouraging each actor to work together to create a sustainable future and share the best practices. Not only do they have an impact on the production standards, but cashmere produced with their standards is also a sign of quality, and respect toward the animals involved. Throughout the years, they have developed a code of practice, that each actor has to follow in order to become SFA certified. These best practices are also used in other industries, and evolve depending on research, and advice from industry experts.
The best practices are different depending on each actor. For farmers, there are some requirements regarding food and water, living environments, but also handling and transport of the animals. For the manufacturers, requirements are focused on the use of chemicals and water, always limiting their use, and avoiding harmful chemicals, which have an environmental impact. SFA Standards are some of the highest in the clothing industry, and their ongoing work ensures a luxurious cashmere, produced in an ethical and fair way.
Cashmere is a fine wool fibre coming from the Cashmere goat. The Himalayas and Mongolia are most famous for their goats, which produce wool of a fine and soft nature, protecting the animals from the harsh conditions of the winter season. Cashmere wool is known most famously for its softness, warmth, strength, and durability. The fineness of the fibre ensures the softness of the finished textile. Hair from normal goats will have a diameter of 36 microns, compared to the 19 microns of most types of cashmere. The materials with the finest fibres will be soft to the touch and feel extremely lightweight. Cashmere is of course also very warm and able to keep heat in through its isothermal properties. Its warmth is dependent on the strength of the raw fibres.
Because of the above factors, cashmere is known for being a luxurious and expensive product. Historically, it has always been a high priced item, and gained reputation in the West through its luxurious feel and softness appealing to the upper class women in Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries, and has since become staple winter product in the luxury industry.
