Portrait Study, Benjamin Robert Haydon, Undated
- 70% Wool, 30% Silk
- Hand Rolled
- Printed in Macclesfield, England
- 42cm x 42cm
Printed onto a wool and silk weave that feels incredibly fine and lighter than air, earning the name Wispy, this square is finer even than the paper Haydon first drew it on.
Wear it to a summer garden party, with a Greige Linen Tie and a Light-Brown Stripe Cotton-Blend Jacket.
About the design
Portrait Study is a small pen and ink drawing by the British painter Benjamin Robert Haydon, held today at the Yale Center for British Art. Haydon spent his career chasing grand historical subjects on an equally grand scale, so a sketch this modest and this quick sits rather apart from the reputation, a handful of lines settling a face without ceremony. Undated and unnamed, it has the loose confidence of something done for its own sake rather than for exhibition.
