This pocket square is taken from the design of a silk handkerchief in the collection of the Museum of London. It would have originally been created with a plate print in dark brown ink with watercolours added by hand. Naval subjects were of great interest during the 19th century, and this handkerchief may have been used as a means of learning to recognise flags and standards. The flags of Russia, Spain, America and France dominate the corners, with the British Royal Standard in the centre. Originally, owner’s initials, 'IFH' were embroidered in black cross-stitch in the corner. The central Royal Standard comes with the caption: "Royal Standard of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, 1840" and it has a narrow black band border.

This square is a great addition to any collection, the base white matching with most jackets and the flags adding small bursts of colour as well as a great talking point. We particularly like it in a winged puff or 2 point fold.

What Makes Our Pocket Squares Special?

1. Large Size

We believe that 40cm is the minimum size for a high-quality silk pocket square. Any smaller and it will slide down inside your pocket with any movement of your jacket, as well as limit the number of folds you can achieve. It goes without saying we would never advocate any form of pocket square holder. All our pocket squares are either 42cm x 42cm or 40cm x 40cm, unless they are linen or wool based in which case, a 33cm x 33cm square works perfectly with the more structural fabrics.

2. The Finest Silk

We use the finest mulberry silk with our silk and wool/silk pocket squares. The quality of the fabric can be seen in the texture and the level of detail and vibrancy of the finished product.

3. Exceptional Print Quality

We take the utmost care in printing our pocket squares, which results in truly remarkable levels of detail. Faces, objects and colours are sharp and well defined to give a truly stunning finish. We also take exceptional care with the colour bleed, so the print is almost as crisp on the back as it is on the front, allowing for an unlimited number of folds.

4. Hand Rolled Edges

The art of hand rolling pocket squares is a unique craft and truly makes each piece individual and unique. We feel that the precision and care taken by our skilled artisans gives each square its own unique character, finish and feel. To create the finest rolled hems, the edge of the silk must be softy turned over with a handheld needle and then small stitches are inserted approximately one half to one centimetre apart around the edge, creating a supple yet prominent border.

5. Gift Box

All our pocket squares are delivered in a stylish box which can either be used to store them or also ensures they make the perfect gift.
