Dancers, Pink and Green, by Edgar Degas, c. 1890
- 100% Silk
- Hand Rolled
- Printed in Macclesfield, England
- 42cm x 42cm
Degas returned to the wings of the Paris Opéra again and again, not for the performance, but for the waiting. This pastel, made around 1890, shows four dancers preparing in the half-light backstage, adjusting ribbons, leaning into one another, entirely indifferent to the audience they are about to face. The teal and coral palette is vivid without being obvious, and the composition, cropped, angled, intimate, is unmistakably his. Printed onto Mulberry silk and finished with a hand-rolled edge, it is a pocket square for someone who considers the choice seriously.
