Blue needs something to push against

A blue square on a navy jacket tends to vanish into it, which is a lot of silk to spend on not being noticed. Set it against chestnut, rust or claret instead and the warmth of the cloth does the work for you.

Grey is the gentler route, letting blue sit on it the way sky sits on slate. And for those who would rather not be gentle, racing green and rose pink give a blue square something worth arguing with.
