Hi, I’m Leah from Rampley & Co and today I’m joined by fashion consultant Chris Moodoo and we will be discussing the Holbrook waxed jacket.

Okay, so this jacket is hand crafted in England, it has a dry wax finish. The collars are brushed cotton, as well as the inside hand warming pockets and finally it is finished with the highest quality Riri zips.

Chris, what should a person consider when they’re buying a waxed jacket? I think the important thing is to get the right type of wax for them. You can get all sorts, the traditional slightly greasier wax jackets are fantastic if you spend time in the country side, perhaps fishing and outdoor pursuits, But this one here which has a antique dry finish is far more versatile, sure you could wear it in the country side, with a chunky sweater will look fantastic but if you wear it in a more urban situation as I have styled it here, the Rampley & Co Cashmere quarter zip and a tie. This is a really good outfit to wear to a corporate event perhaps at the rugby. As well as that, you can just wear it a general sort of bomber jacket style. Throw it on with jeans and a t-shirt and you can wear it to the pub, so I think the drier version as it is here are more versatile.

Chris, what makes the wax jacket such a classic British staple? That is a really good question, because it certainly is, I think it is part of British style. The main part is the cloth, it is such a British cloth. Originally developed for sailors travelling from Scotland to Scandinavia and you needed a fabric which was really resilient and kept the weather out and it soon gained popularity in rural settings because again it was just a hard wearing resilient fabric. That is a characteristic which is really loved by the British. We live in a climate where it rains a lot, so for everyone to have a jacket which keeps the rain out is a useful thing to have but what makes it really special is the way they age. The way they get better with years to come, it becomes your own jacket. The way people get obsessed with how their jeans fade is the same thing about your wax jacket, it becomes your wax jacket and it becomes your favourite piece. Wearing your old, elegant clothes is to me a big part of what British style is about. Thanks you for watching this video on our wax jacket, we hope you enjoyed it and we’ll see you on our next video.
