The firm of Currier & Ives created over 7,500 titles and created over a million lithographs in their 73 years run as a print shop. This 1892 print, in their popular bird’s eye view style, includes prominent landmarks of the day.
Today, the Washington monument, which juts out of the city’s low skyline, rises above the chatter of politics on the streets below. But at the moment captured in the 19th-century drawing that is printed in silk on this pocket square, the monument was still a work in progress. A change in marble suppliers during its 23-year construction hiatus led to a subtle change in colour to the monument that is as noticeable today as the varying shades of green and grey that give this pocket square its versatility. Its neutral tones let you pair this square with just about any jacket in your repertoire with ease.
