In 1920, when the PLM railway could take passengers no further into the high Alps, they commissioned a fleet of open-air charabancs to do the rest and they asked Roger Broders to tell people about it. The result is one of his most celebrated posters: a red coach paused on a mountain pass, a guide pointing across a vast panorama, from the sea to the high mountains, running along the base. The composition is all forward momentum and open sky. On silk, the reds and terracottas are particularly fine. A pocket square for those who take the scenic route.
