General Lasalle was a renowned French cavalry general who tragically lost his life at the Battle of Wagram (July 5 – 6, 1809) around the Lobau Island, fifteen kilometers north of Vienna, Austria. This final charge immortalises his unwavering commitment to duty and sacrifice for his country. Leading a cavalry charge against the Austrian General Klenau, Lasalle was shot between the eyes by a Hungarian grenadier and was killed instantly. The combination of artistry and historical significance makes this a remarkable piece that captures not only the heroism displayed during the war but also serves as a testament to human resilience in times of conflict.
